![]() The soldiers mention maybe getting a shot at him, but pretty early on you hear the radio message you heard before saying to “Forget about Freeman” and to mark targets on the tactical map, which you did from Gordon’s perspective. You hear a lot about Gordon Freeman, as the HECU soldiers aren’t too happy that he’s killed a lot of their friends….mainly due to them shooting at him first, but go off I guess. The weapons are going to be done like my “characters” section in my other LttP threads. In total, Opposing Force has a total of NINE weapons that were not in the original Half-Life, and keeps a few that were in the original Half-Life. You then get the Desert Eagle, a different take on the magnum. Right off the bat you get the Wrench and Combat Knife, essentially heavier and lighter versions of the crowbar. There’s a ton of them that were not in Half-Life 1. The weapons are one of the things that standout the most about this expansion. They use mechanics from the original Half-Life in different ways. They created an entirely new set of alien creatures that you weren’t used to seeing in the original Half-Life. I do appreciate it doing many things differently. A few chapters in, the rest of the squad leaves without you and you’re stranded along with some remaining soldiers, looking for a way out of your own while dealing with a whole host of other problems. Unlike the HECU in the original Half-Life, you are not there to kill the scientists and security guards, mainly because you have them help you escape the place, as that becomes the mission at the start. Of course shit goes off the rails when you arrive. ![]() Opposing Force sees you playing as Adrian Shephard, a Corporal in the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit (HECU) sent to clean up the mess during the Black Mesa incident, and kill everyone involved. HL2, Episodes, and Alyx will remain unspoiled, or tagged if they are to be spoiled. I won’t spoil Black Mesa, mainly because the stuff to spoil there is how different Xen is compared to the original Half-Life. This thread is going to spoil the entirety of both Half-Life 1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift. I’ll say up front, if you haven’t played Half-Life (or Black Mesa!) absolutely go play it, and definitely play it before you play either of these two games…just avoid Half-Life Source. These allowed Valve to focus on their future games (read: Half-Life 2). In 1999 Opposing Force was released, and Blue Shift was released in 2001. I still have a few longer threads I want to write, namely LttP Persona 5 Royal and the Mario Party Superstars Metagame thread I have talked about before, but I played the Half-Life Gearbox expansions within the last two weeks and this was shorter, so I figured I would write it first.Īfter the release of Half-Life 1 in 1998, Gearbox developed two expansions in the coming years.
